Ole Gunnar Solskjaer drops bombshell hint about dream move to Celtic as Rangers managerial plans exposed
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, recently out of work after his departure from Besiktas, is reportedly under consideration for the vacant managerial role at Rangers. The club’s American owners are deliberating over who should succeed Russell Martin, with Steven Gerrard already ruled out of the running.
Danny Rohl, the former Sheffield Wednesday boss, is said to have impressed Andrew Cavenagh and Paarag Marathe of 49ers Enterprises during recent discussions in London. However, sources indicate the Rangers board remains divided concerning the German coach, while Kevin Muscat, currently in charge at Shanghai Port, is also being considered for the role.
Adding intrigue to the situation, Solskjaer’s ex-Manchester United teammate Paul Scholes has asserted that the Norwegian “held secret talks with Rangers over becoming their next boss.” Solskjaer has been without a managerial post since leaving Besiktas after just seven months in charge and has since returned to his previous position as a UEFA match analyst.
Solskjaer’s managerial experience spans a variety of clubs, including Manchester United, Cardiff City, and two stints at Molde. Notably, he brought the Norwegian side to Glasgow’s east end in 2015 for a Europa League fixture against Celtic at Parkhead. Reflecting on that experience, Solskjaer admitted, “It is a fantastic place to play football and I am sure all the boys are looking forward to it. I have only been here as a spectator before. I never had the chance to walk out to the pitch so in one way I am very envious of the players who will feel the atmosphere tomorrow night. The atmosphere here could probably match the top clubs in the world like Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid.”
On that occasion, Molde managed to defeat Ronny Deila’s Celtic with a 2-1 win at Celtic Park. With speculation mounting over his possible appointment at Rangers, attention now turns to whether Solskjaer could soon return to Glasgow—this time masterminding results against Celtic from the other side of the city.
The decision over who will take charge at Ibrox is expected to be closely scrutinized, as the club seeks a new direction following recent changes. As of now, the outcome remains uncertain, with several candidates still in contention and the board yet to reach a consensus on the club’s next move.
