Rangers are entering a phase of significant internal restructuring, with several pivotal positions being filled over the coming weeks. Among the headline appointments is Jim Liggett, a former Manchester United director, who is set to become the club’s interim chief operating officer. His tenure is expected to last until the season’s end, while the search for a permanent hire continues.
Liggett’s arrival at Ibrox will see him reunited with CEO Patrick Stewart, a former colleague from their days at Old Trafford. Liggett boasts a lengthy background in law enforcement, having spent over 25 years with Greater Manchester Police before transitioning to football as Manchester United’s head of security in 2017. He later advanced to the role of director of operations, departing United just last month.
The decision to bring in Liggett is part of a larger overhaul behind the scenes at Rangers. The move comes shortly after news broke that Robbie Thelwell, son of sporting director Kevin Thelwell, will soon take up the post of head of recruitment at the club. Robbie Thelwell previously held responsibilities in technical scouting and loan management at Norwich City and has experience as a first-team scout with Aston Villa.
Rangers are also reportedly on the verge of appointing a new chief commercial officer, with the interview process nearing completion after attracting over 100 applicants. This signals a clear intent from the club to strengthen its executive and operational framework.
Further additions to the staff include Nathan Fisher, currently Everton’s head of emerging talent at Hill Dickinson Stadium, who will become Rangers’ new head scout. Fisher is familiar to both Kevin Thelwell and technical director Dan Purdy, with whom he will be working closely once more in Glasgow.
The club has filled several other important positions as part of its sweeping reorganization. David MacGregor has been named men’s head kit manager, Jamie Ramsden will take charge as head of performance after leading academy sports science, and Jaymes Monte, formerly an analyst at Dundee United, will step in as data insights lead.
Taken together, these appointments reflect Rangers’ concerted effort to restructure and modernize the club’s operations across all departments, as they look to position themselves for future success both on and off the pitch.
