Tottenham : This duo who lost their place in the Spurs starting XI joins Turkey
Turkish football club Galatasaray has confirmed the addition of two former Tottenham players to its roster. Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele, who were previously sidelined at THFC, have now officially joined Galatasaray.
Sanchez was acquired by Tottenham in 2017 for an estimated £42m but failed to make his mark during his tenure with the North London team. His departure from Spurs is on a permanent basis, fetching a deal worth £12.8m.
On the other hand, French midfielder Ndombele – known as Spurs’ record signing after being bought for £55m from Lyon in 2019 – will be moving to Turkey on a season-long loan. This follows similar temporary stints he had at Lyon and Napoli over the last two campaigns.
A fresh start for both players
Both players found themselves out of favor under coach Ange Postecoglou’s management, leading to their exit from Tottenham. While Sanchez did get some game time this year, Ndombele didn’t even make it into any matchday squad.
For Sanchez, his final appearance for Tottenham ended disappointingly with him missing a penalty shot during a Carabao Cup shootout defeat against Fulham last week. The player also faced criticism from fans last season when he was subbed off just 23 minutes into a match against Bournemouth following multiple mistakes that led to the opposition taking lead.
Ndombele’s stint in North London wasn’t much better since joining with high expectations due to his record transfer fee. He struggled significantly throughout his time at Spurs which ultimately resulted in his move away from the club.
The duo will now join forces with notable names like former Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha and ex-Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira at Galatasaray. The Turkish champions are gearing up for their Champions League campaign where they’ll face Bayern Munich, Man United and FC Copenhagen.
