Nico Raskin refuses to leave Rangers amid explosive Russell Martin bust-up on frantic transfer deadline day

Nico Raskin, recently left out from the Rangers squad, is expected to remain at Ibrox, according to sources. The midfielder will engage in direct discussions with manager Russell Martin upon his return from international duty with Belgium, following his exclusion from the team prior to the Old Firm derby.

The decision to drop Raskin was reportedly supported by senior members within the Rangers dressing room. Despite some late transfer interest from two clubs on deadline day, it now appears Raskin will continue with Rangers past the transfer window, with efforts underway to resolve internal issues for the benefit of the squad.

Meanwhile, Oscar Cortes has secured a loan move to Sporting Gijon for the season. The Colombian winger, who cost the club £4.5 million after joining permanently this summer, failed to win over new boss Russell Martin and has now moved to Spain in hopes of more game time.

Cortes initially arrived at Rangers in January 2024, but his early promise was derailed by injury, limiting his contributions. Last season, injuries continued to plague him, restricting the 21-year-old to just seven appearances with the Gers. The club was obliged to purchase him from Lens for £4.5 million in June, but the latest loan deal with Sporting Gijon does not include a buy option.

In a statement, Rangers confirmed: “We can confirm that Oscar Cortes has joined Sporting Gijon on a season-long loan deal. Everyone at Rangers wishes Oscar well for the campaign ahead.”

Elsewhere, Rangers are nearing the signing of Youssef Chermiti from Everton in a deal reported to be worth £8 million. The striker has already completed his medical at Ibrox, with an official announcement anticipated shortly. Additionally, the club is pursuing a loan move for central defender Derek Cornelius from Marseilles, with an option to buy included in the proposed agreement.
