Swansea pursues a loan agreement for Newcastle young talent
Swansea City Football Club is reportedly pursuing a loan deal for Newcastle United’s young right-back, Harrison Ashby. The 21-year-old player has been struggling to secure playtime since joining the Magpies in January.
Loan Deal on the Horizon
Newcastle United’s promising right back, Harrison Ashby, may soon find himself playing for Swansea City if a proposed loan deal goes through. Despite his potential, Ashby has found it challenging to get significant game time at Newcastle after his move from West Ham earlier this year. He was brought in as a backup for Kieran Trippier but hasn’t made any competitive appearances yet.
Ashby did manage to make an impression during pre-season games and even scored the winning goal in a match against Rangers in July. His performance led Mail Sport to identify him as one of the exciting players learning their trade with Premier League’s chasing pack.
A Boost for Swansea
A stint with Championship side Swansea could provide Ashby with more opportunities for first-team football. It would also be beneficial for new Swans boss Michael Duff, who is aiming to lead a promotion charge in south Wales after joining from Barnsley.
In addition to targeting Ashby, Swansea are also considering various options between the sticks. One name that has surfaced is Brighton goalkeeper Carl Rushworth. The 22-year-old had several loan spells in the Football League and was part of England U21 squad at European Championships held in June.
The club is also exploring possibilities at centre back position, with Rotherham defender Cameron Humphreys being considered. Aged 24, Humphreys helped Rotherham maintain their Championship status last season and is known as a graduate of Manchester City’s academy.
