Man Utd legend storms back to Premier League with shock Burnley move after stunning free transfer!
A former Manchester United defender is set to return to top-flight football after signing with Burnley, who have just secured promotion to the Premier League. The club’s return to the highest level comes on the back of a formidable defensive record, having conceded only 16 goals in 46 matches and finishing the season with 100 points. Despite this impressive performance, Burnley have chosen to bolster their defence further by bringing in Axel Tuanzebe.
Tuanzebe, aged 27, was once seen as the next big star at Old Trafford and has now joined Burnley on a free transfer after leaving Ipswich. His arrival follows Burnley’s other summer signings, including Quilindschy Hartman from Feyenoord and Max Weiss, a German goalkeeper from Karlsruher. This signing marks Burnley’s commitment to strengthening their squad ahead of their Premier League campaign.
Having made 37 senior appearances for Manchester United, Tuanzebe’s career has featured both high expectations and frequent moves. Notably, he captained United’s first team as a first-year scholar, a feat not achieved since Gary Neville. He began his senior career under Jose Mourinho in 2017 at just 19, but injuries and loan spells have disrupted his trajectory.
Throughout his career, Tuanzebe has had five loan stints, with three at Aston Villa, and periods at Napoli and Stoke. In 2023, he signed permanently for Ipswich and became a consistent presence under manager Kieran McKenna. Unfortunately, a thumb injury prevented him from contributing during Ipswich’s battle against relegation, which ultimately saw them drop out of the division.
Sources indicate that Ipswich did offer Tuanzebe a new contract, but he opted for a move to Turf Moor instead. His versatility, able to play both centre-back and right-back, offers Burnley manager Scott Parker valuable options as they prepare for a challenging season.
Supporters are hopeful that Tuanzebe, once heralded as Manchester United’s future defensive star, can now fulfill his early promise at Burnley and play a vital role in helping the club retain their Premier League status.
