Everton poised for major acquisition as Alan Myers reveals unexpected Kyle Walker development
Everton is currently exploring potential transfers, with their focus reportedly on Manchester City’s Kyle Walker and Villarreal’s Thierno Barry. David Moyes, seeking to reinforce his squad, is prioritizing the acquisition of a new full-back and a striker, especially with Ashley Young and Dominic Calvert-Lewin set to depart.
Alan Myers, a former Sky Sports news editor, provided insights into these transfer rumors. He confirmed Everton’s genuine interest in securing Barry, indicating that the club might need to invest significantly to finalize the deal. However, Myers downplayed the links with Walker, suggesting Everton’s interest in him is not as strong as in the younger Barry.
Despite reports of an approach for Walker, Myers clarified via X that while Everton’s interest in Barry is sincere, the pursuit of Walker is not as certain. He stated, “I’m told we’re interested in Barry and not so much Walker, but chances of signing either or both couldn’t say for sure, don’t think anything is imminent but let’s see.”
In terms of team strategy, Everton is advised to steer clear of signing Walker this summer. At 35, Walker is no longer in peak form, and his once-notable speed and agility have diminished. Focusing on younger, more dynamic players aligns better with Everton’s future goals in the Premier League.
Walker’s potential high wages and short-term contract could place a financial strain on Everton, potentially limiting their ability to secure additional defensive or attacking talent. Although Walker’s experience is undeniable, his waning physical attributes make him less suitable for Everton’s long-term plans, where younger options could offer more sustained growth in the league.
