Newcastle: Confirmed serious injury to this key player, he will miss the Carabao Cup final

Newcastle United has announced that promising left-back Lewis Hall will be out for the remainder of the season due to a serious foot injury. Following a detailed evaluation by a specialist, it has been determined that surgery is required for his recovery.

Initially, Hall was expected to miss the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City on March 16, having already been sidelined during Newcastle’s FA Cup exit to Brighton. The full extent of his injury has now been assessed, leading to the decision for surgical intervention.

In a statement, Newcastle expressed their disappointment: “Lewis Hall will miss the rest of the 2024-25 season after sustaining an injury to a bone in his foot. Following a scan and advice from a specialist, Lewis will undergo surgery before a period of rehabilitation with the club’s medical team.” The club conveyed their best wishes for his upcoming surgery and recovery process.

This injury is a significant blow for Newcastle as they gear up for a pivotal match at Wembley. Hall’s absence is further exacerbated by the suspension of teammate Anthony Gordon, who received a straight red card during the match against Brighton. Newcastle has opted not to contest this decision, leaving them without two crucial players for the final.

With Hall and Gordon both unavailable, manager Eddie Howe faces the challenge of reworking his game plan. Tino Livramento and Harvey Barnes are anticipated to step in for the injured Hall and suspended Gordon as they prepare to face the daunting task of containing Liverpool’s Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Hall’s season had been a breakout campaign, with the 20-year-old establishing himself as an integral part of Newcastle’s lineup. He has made 34 appearances across all competitions, contributing five assists, and even earned his first two senior caps for England last November.

Unfortunately for Hall, this injury strikes at a moment when he was on the verge of greater recognition, as he was likely to be included in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. With Hall sidelined, Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly may now seize the opportunity to fill the left-back position for the matches against Albania and Latvia.
