Rangers – Transfer News: This transfer link resurfaces, the striker becomes available on a free deal
The transfer window is in full swing, and Rangers are once again showing interest in Tyrese Campbell. The 24-year-old forward has left Stoke City after his contract ended and is currently considering his options, with the Scottish club expressing a keen desire to bring him on board.
In 2020, Rangers had their eye on Campbell, when then-manager Steven Gerrard thought about signing him before his contract expired. Although Celtic was also interested at that time, Campbell decided to stay with Stoke.
However, things have taken a turn as Campbell looks for new opportunities away from the Potters. The Daily Mail reports that Rangers aren’t alone in this chase; English Championship sides such as Sheffield United, West Brom, QPR, Preston North End, and Cardiff are all competing for the striker’s signature.
Campbell’s stint at Stoke City saw him netting 36 goals and providing 21 assists over 164 games. His exit coincides with comments from Philippe Clement suggesting that Rangers might need to sell players to fund incoming transfers.
Clement has openly discussed the financial tactics of the club stating: “That’s the reality,” acknowledging that selling players could be essential for acquiring new talent this summer. He admits being surprised by this strategy but remains dedicated to ensuring both immediate success and long-term stability for Rangers.
As we delve further into the transfer season, it will be intriguing to see if Rangers can clinch Campbell or if they’ll encounter fierce competition from other clubs looking to take advantage of his status as a free agent.
