Everton player set to undergo medical today as EFL club prepares surprise announcement this week

Harry Tyrer is scheduled to complete his medical examination on Tuesday as Cardiff City moves forward with acquiring the goalkeeper from Everton during the January transfer window. The 24-year-old English shot-stopper represents the club’s first significant departure this month, with the transaction nearing completion.

Displacing Jordan Pickford remains nearly impossible at Everton, which has prompted Tyrer to seek opportunities elsewhere to advance his professional development. His decision to pursue a fresh start away from Merseyside reflects the competitive atmosphere within the club’s goalkeeping department.

Cardiff City faces administrative constraints that could affect the announcement timeline. The League One side operates under a transfer embargo, though officials anticipate lifting this restriction by week’s end following the submission of their financial accounts. Until that occurs, the club cannot make any official public statements regarding Tyrer’s arrival.

During his recent loan spell at Blackpool in League One, Tyrer demonstrated substantial experience with 38 appearances, conceding 42 goals while maintaining 12 clean sheets. This loan experience has prepared him for regular first-team football, something unlikely at his parent club given Pickford’s established position as the primary goalkeeper.

Beyond Tyrer’s departure, several other players could exit during the winter window. Dwight McNeil attracts interest from Nottingham Forest, while Harrison Armstrong may return on loan to Preston North End. Additionally, Adam Aznou seeks playing time after struggling for minutes since arriving from Bayern Munich, potentially prompting another temporary move to secure consistent football before the season concludes.
