Celtic FC: The club is tracking a prolific striker who has scored 31 goals this season
Celtic, with their Irish roots and major shareholder Dermot Desmond’s interest in scouting talent from Ireland, have set their sights on a promising young striker. The Hoops are reportedly monitoring Charlton Athletic’s Patrick Casey, a 17-year-old who has been making waves in the youth leagues.
Brighton and Hove Albion, as well as Belgian clubs Club Brugge and Union St Gilloise, are also said to be interested in the prolific forward. Casey has been with Charlton since he was nine years old and has an impressive goal-scoring record for the club’s U18 and U21 sides.
Last season alone, Casey netted 42 goals for his teams which earned him a spot in the Republic of Ireland Under-19 squad for a summer training camp. His remarkable form continued into this campaign with another 31 goals after signing a new three-year deal with Charlton last summer.
Casey made his first-team debut as a substitute on New Year’s Day against Oxford United. He expressed his ambition to continue progressing and replicate his previous season’s goal tally while breaking into the first team.
Meanwhile, Charlton finds themselves struggling just above the EFL League One relegation zone. As Celtic keep tabs on Casey’s development, it is clear that they see potential in this young Irishman to possibly bolster their attacking options in the future.
