Messi’s surprising 2026 Latin American tour plans with Inter Miami revealed in detail

Inter Miami achieved historic success in Major League Soccer by securing the Eastern Conference championship and winning the 2026 MLS Cup with Lionel Messi leading the charge. The team’s ambitions extend beyond domestic dominance, as they now target the Concacaf Champions Cup while preparing for the upcoming World Cup year with a planned Latin American preseason tour.

The Florida club has confirmed that key players including Messi, Rodrigo De Paul, and Luis Suarez will participate in the preseason matches throughout Latin America. This tour serves dual purposes: providing competitive preparation for the 2026 season and offering local audiences the opportunity to witness these world-class athletes perform at the highest level.

Two confirmed matches are scheduled for late January and early February 2026. On January 31, Inter Miami will face Atletico Nacional at the Atanasio Girardot stadium in Medellin, Colombia. The second fixture takes place on February 7 against Barcelona SC at Banco Pichincha stadium in Guayaquil, Ecuador. These contests occur before the MLS regular season begins on February 21.

Looking ahead to the 2026 season, Inter Miami faces notable roster changes. Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets have announced their professional retirement, creating gaps in the squad. The club is actively working on replacements, with Sergio Reguilon expected to arrive as Alba’s successor. Additionally, reports suggest Timo Werner may join the roster, though official confirmation remains pending.

De Paul’s future with Inter Miami appears secure, as the club exercised its purchase option with Atletico Madrid. The Argentine midfielder, along with Messi, will use this preseason to prepare for defending Argentina’s World Cup title in the tournament jointly hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
